Bale Batu: The Captivating Little Cambodia of Pampanga

Just a few steps from the Gintung Pakpak Ecopark, there's a unique structure that is gaining popularity on social media.  Let me introduce Bale Batu also known as the "Little Cambodia of Pampanga". In this blog post, I will share the top things about Bale Batu and how to get there.

Nestled in the heart of Pampanga, Bale Batu is one of the tourist spots that we visited in the town of Arayat during the #NLEXLakbayNorte Pampanga tour. This captivating destination is not a temple and does not have a direct inclusion in Philippine history. It is a private property that looks similar to the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Bale Batu was built by the late Jesus Padilla, a local artist who’s also known as Apung Susing. This Angkor Wat-like structure uses cement and pulverized rocks from Mount Arayat. Padilla spent almost 40 years working on this amazing project.

This Insta-Worthy stone house is open for tourists for a fee of P50/ head. It's open daily, from 7AM-5PM. If you wish to rent the area for a photo shoot, you can also make a reservation starting at P2,000. If you will bring your own car or motorcycle, a parking space is available. No worries, your vehicles are safe and secured.

While Bale Batu is a captivating destination in its own right, the surrounding areas offer additional attractions to explore. Take a short trip to the neighboring city of Angeles and visit the historic Santo Rosario Church (Archdiocese of San Fernando))  and Puning Hotspring and Restaurant, or venture to the picturesque Mount Arayat National Park, where you can hike through lush forests and marvel at stunning landscapes.  Try also fun local culture immersion activities at SM City San Fernando Downtown and explore Heritage Houses via a Kalesa ride at San Fenando's Heritage District. These nearby attractions complement your visit to Bale Batu, creating a well-rounded experience.

How to get there

From Manila, you can take a Genesis or Victory Liner bus bound for San Fernando and ask to be dropped off at SM City Pampanga in San Fernando or Marquee Mall in Angeles.

From SM Pampanga, you can take a jeepney headed to Magalang. On the other hand, if you’re coming from Marquee Mall, you can take an Arayat-bound jeepney. Tell the driver to be dropped off at Barangay Buensuceso where you can take a tricycle to Bale Batu.

For private cars, I highly recommend using Waze or Google Maps to go to Bale Batu.
