A Perfect 4-Day Itinerary to Explore Sapporo, Japan

Say hello to Sapporo, the vibrant capital of Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island! With its lively atmosphere, stunning natural scenery, and world-class cuisine, Sapporo is a must-visit destination for any traveler looking to explore Japan beyond the usual tourist hotspots. As someone who has spent time in this city, I'm excited to share my recommended itinerary for 4 days in Sapporo.

Day 1: Explore the City Center

Start your day in the heart of the city at Odori Park, a long and spacious park that stretches through the center of Sapporo. Admire the colorful flowerbeds and sculptures as you stroll through the park, then head to Sapporo TV Tower for panoramic views of the city. From there, visit the Sapporo Clock Tower, a historic symbol of the city's development. Check Tour Rates and Availability HERE.

For lunch, head to the Sapporo Beer Museum, where you can learn about the history of beer in Japan and sample some of Sapporo's famous brews. Afterward, take a stroll through the nearby historic village of Hokkaido Jingu Shrine.

In the evening, experience the vibrant nightlife of Susukino, one of Japan's largest entertainment districts. Indulge in some of the city's famous ramen at one of the many shops lining the streets, then head to one of the karaoke bars or nightclubs for a fun-filled night out.

Day 2: Visit Mt. Moiwa and Hokkaido Shrine

Take a break from the city and head to Mt. Moiwa, a scenic mountain with stunning views of Sapporo and the surrounding landscape. You can take a cable car to the summit, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the mountains beyond.

Afterward, visit the Hokkaido Shrine, one of the most important Shinto shrines in the region. Explore the beautiful grounds and architecture of the shrine, then head to nearby Maruyama Park, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Day 3: Visit Otaru

Take a day trip to the charming port city of Otaru, located just a short train ride from Sapporo. Stroll through the historic Otaru Canal and visit the many glass workshops and boutiques in the area, where you can purchase beautiful handmade glassware and souvenirs. Check Tour Rates and Availability HERE.

In the evening, head back to Sapporo and enjoy a delicious seafood dinner at one of the city's many excellent restaurants.

Day 4: Visit the Snow Festival and Susukino Ice Festival

If you're visiting Sapporo in February, you can't miss the famous Sapporo Snow Festival. Admire the stunning snow sculptures and ice statues on display throughout the city, and participate in the many winter activities and events.
