New Passport Application: Complete Process and Requirements

Are you a Filipino citizen looking to travel internationally? One of the most important documents you'll need is a Philippine passport. Here's everything you need to know about applying for a Philippine passport, step-by-step.

Step 1: Gather Required Documents

Before you head to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) office, make sure you have all the necessary documents. These include:

A. Birth Certificate (issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA))

B. Valid Government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license, SSS ID, PRC ID, Voter's ID, etc.)

C. Proof of confirmed appointment (more on this later)

D. For married women who want to change their name: Marriage Certificate (issued by PSA)

Step 2: Schedule an Appointment

To apply for a Philippine passport, you must first schedule an appointment with the DFA. You can do this online through the DFA Passport Appointment System. Choose a DFA office that's convenient for you, and select a date and time that works with your schedule.

A.   Visit the DFA Online Passport Appointment System website.

B.  Read the Terms and Conditions, and then tick the box.

C. Choose the one that applies to you: INDIVIDUAL Appointment and GROUP Appointment.

D.  Choose a DFA office/branch.

E.  Select a date and time from the provided calendar.

Please be advised that you will receive an e-mail confirming your appointment schedule after paying the application processing fee. The e-mail also contains the link to your application form. Click the link to download, and then print out your accomplished form. Please be advised that NO WALK-INS are allowed.

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee

The passport application fee is PHP 1,200. You can pay this fee at any authorized payment center, including Bayad Center, EC Pay, and 7-Eleven. Make sure to keep your receipt as proof of payment.

Regular Processing: This costs P950 and takes 10-15 days in Manila.

Express Processing: This costs P1200 and takes 5-7 days in Manila.

If you encounter any problems regarding payment, contact the DFA helpdesk immediately at (02) 234 3488.

Step 4: Go to Your DFA Appointment

On the day of your appointment, make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early. Bring all the required documents, including your payment receipt. You'll also need to bring a printed copy of your confirmed appointment.

You'll need to present your documents to a passport processing officer at the DFA office. They will verify your information and ask you to confirm your details. You'll also have your photo and biometrics taken.

Step 5: Wait for Your Passport

After you've completed all the necessary steps, all you have to do is wait for your passport to arrive. The processing time can take 12 to 15 working days, depending on the DFA office you visited.

When picking up your passport, bring your application receipt and other proof, like the claim stub. Double-check all the details on your passport before leaving the counter.
