Padar Island is a breathtaking destination in the Indonesian archipelago, situated between Komodo Island and Rinca Island, within Komodo National Park. Known for its rugged mountains, stunning panoramic views, and unique beaches in shades of pink, white, and black, Padar Island offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, adventurers, and photographers alike.
The Best Time to Visit Padar Island: Green and Dry Seasons
To catch Padar Island at its most vibrant, visit from April to June. This period falls within the end of the rainy season, so the mountains and hills are lush, green, and thriving. By September to November, the landscape becomes drier, turning golden-brown in the heat of the dry season. The cooler weather and clear skies make it perfect for hiking and panoramic views, especially if you love that rugged, arid look.
How to Get to Padar Island
Padar Island is reachable by boat from Labuan Bajo, a charming port town on the island of Flores. To get to Labuan Bajo, travelers often fly from Bali, with direct flights available and taking about 1.5 hours. From Labuan Bajo, you’ll embark on a scenic boat ride that lasts around 2-3 hours to reach Padar Island.
From the Philippines, you can catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a travel time of just over 3 hours. From there, you can connect on a flight to Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, which also takes a little over 3 hours. Once you arrive in Flores, the town center is just a quick 10-minute drive from the airport.
I booked my flight and hotel through AirAsia MOVE, which offers some of the best rates for flights and hotels. I stayed overnight at Tune Hotel in Kuala Lumpur ( 2-minute walk from the airport) before flying to Labuan Bajo the next day.
