Barangay Telabastagan Shines Bright as Giant Lantern Festival 2023 Grand Winner

In a mesmerizing display of artistic brilliance and community camaraderie, Barangay Telabastagan emerged triumphant at the 115th Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) held in the heart of Pampanga. The City of San Fernando's Robinsons Starmills grounds came alive on Saturday, December 16, as ten spectacular Kapampangan Christmas lanterns illuminated the mall's open grounds, marking the festive celebration of tradition, creativity, and unity.

The GLF, affectionately known as "Ligligan Parul," commemorated 115 years of lantern-making and Kapampangan craftsmanship. Ten participating barangays, including Bulaon, Calulut, Del Pilar, Dolores, San Jose, San Juan, Sta. Lucia, San Nicolas, Sto. Nino, and the victorious Telabastagan, added vibrant hues to the city's festivities.

On the eve of December 16, the Giant Lantern Festival officially kicked off the holiday season in San Fernando, setting the stage for a dazzling showcase of creativity. Ten giant parols adorned the open grounds of Robinsons Starmills, each a magnificent interpretation of the twinkling parols that grace Filipino households during Christmas.

Media representatives and content creators, courtesy of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation, were invited to witness this enchanting event that not only marked the Christmas season but also celebrated a cherished San Fernando tradition.

Barangay Telabastagan, guided by Barangay Captain Hon. Elmer Manguerra, lantern artisan Arnel Flores, and the skilled team of electricians led by Ronald Aguilar and Ener Nicdao, along with rotor maker Jeremiah Balboa, clinched the coveted title of Champion. The grand prize of P300,000, a trophy, and well-deserved bragging rights were rightfully earned.

Beyond being a competition, the Giant Lantern Festival served as a celebration of Pampanga's diverse traditions and the unity that binds its communities. Bulaon, Calulut, Dolores, Del Pilar, Sto. Niño, San Juan, Sta. Lucia, San Jose, San Nicolas, and Telabastagan collectively wove a rich cultural tapestry, adding depth to the festival's significance.

For those who want to witness the brilliance of the giant lanterns, a nightly exhibit awaits from December 17 to 23, 25 to 30, and January 1, 2024, starting at 6:00 p.m. Join in the festivities and witness the radiant glow that continues to illuminate the spirit of the holiday season in Pampanga.
