Four Decades of Bringing Convenience to Every Filipino Neighborhood
As a frequent traveler, experiencing local cuisine is always on my list. But when I need to budget my food expenses, 7-Eleven becomes my go-to. From meals and snacks to toiletries and skincare essentials, 7-Eleven offers everything a budget traveler like me could ask for. It’s a reliable stop that ensures I stay fueled and comfortable, wherever my adventures take me.
Recently, I had the chance to witness a significant event—the grand opening of 7-Eleven's 4000th store in Newport District, Pasay City. This milestone celebration also marks 40 years of the Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), the exclusive licensee of 7-Eleven in the Philippines, serving as a trusted companion in every Filipino’s everyday life.
A Journey that Began in 1984
PSC’s story began on February 29, 1984, when the very first 7-Eleven opened at the corner of EDSA and Kamias Road in Metro Manila. With its eye-catching orange, green, and red branding, the store became an instant hit. Over time, it evolved from being a simple convenience store to an integral part of Filipino culture, with the phrase "Tara, 7-Eleven tayo!" becoming a familiar call for quick snacks or late-night cravings.
Now, 40 years later, 7-Eleven has grown to 4000 branches nationwide. It has stayed true to its promise of "being the Filipinos’ neighbor you can count on,” a principle first championed by the late Vicente T. Paterno, one of the company’s founders.
A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation
Under the guidance of Mr. Jose Victor Paterno, President and CEO, the legacy of PSC thrives. He reflected on this momentous occasion, saying, "Celebrating 40 years in the Philippines and opening our 4000th store is a significant achievement for us. It underscores our commitment to delivering convenience and exceptional service. We’re excited to continue serving our communities and look forward to future."
Co-founder and current Chairman of the Board, Mr. Jose T. Pardo, also shared his sentiments: "Reaching 4000 stores is an incredible milestone that reflects the trust and loyalty we've earned from our customers over the years. It’s also a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our team. We are proud to continue being an integral part of Filipino daily life."
Celebrating with the Campaign: "Forty-gether kasama ang paborito mong kapitbahay"
To commemorate this milestone, PSC launched a year-long campaign called "Forty-gether kasama ang paborito mong kapitbahay." This initiative highlights the journey from a single store to a nationwide presence, emphasizing 7-Eleven’s role as a friendly and reliable part of every community.
In addition to the Newport branch, PSC also celebrated the opening of another store in Angeles City, Pampanga, on the same day, October 15. Both new branches showcase enhanced features, including expanded dining spaces and upgrades to their 21 To Go Chicken and Cafe Reserve offerings.
As part of its sustainability efforts, PSC equipped these new stores with solar panels, promoting the use of renewable energy to align with environmentally friendly practices.
7-Eleven: A Beloved Part of Filipino Life
Throughout its four decades, 7-Eleven has been a trusted partner in countless everyday moments. From quick Slurpee stops to satisfying midnight snacks, it remains more than just a convenience store—it’s a friendly neighbor Filipinos rely on.
With 4000 stores and counting, 7-Eleven celebrates the connections it has fostered, blending convenience with warmth, familiarity, and a sense of community. Here’s to 40 years of memories—and to many more ahead!
