Chocolate Hills is an iconic place and the most popular destination in the province of Bohol. It consists of unusually shaped hills stretched over 50 square kilometers of land across the towns of Bilar, Batuan, Carmen, Sagbayan, Sierra Bullones, and Valencia. There are more than 1,000 of these unique mound-shaped hills that look like Hershey's Chocolate Kisses. 



Maybe some of you are wondering why they named it "Chocolate Hills."  During the summer season, the grass-covered hills dry up and turn chocolate brown. Because of its color and shape, it looks like giant "chocolate kisses". It is called the Chocolate Hills because of its color. 



The best spot to witness the majestic view of this iconic destination is at Chocolate Hills Complex. It's situated along Barangay Buenos Aires in the humble town of Carmen, about 55km away from Tagbilaran City. The viewing deck provides an unobstructed 360-degree view of the Chocolate Hills as well as the beautiful towns of Bohol province. The other way to view the Chocolate Hills is at Sagbayan Peak, a mountain resort and recreational center in Sagbayan town.




Please be advised that you have to climb over 200 steps to reach the 360-degree overlooking deck. It's advisable to wear comfortable clothes,  shoes or sandals if you are planning to visit this spot.



How to get to Chocolate Hills Bohol


There are many direct flights to Bohol. Your jump-off to get here is Tagbilaran City and Panglao Island. If you are traveling by sea yoou can book ferry trips bound for Tagbilaran City Seaport from Cebu, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete, and Siquijor.



Best Time To Go 


If you want to see its chocolate brown look, the best time to visit is during the dry months of March to May. This dry season is also an ideal time to travel around and experience outdoor activities such as island tours, swimming, snorkeling, and many more. During the rainy season or Ber months, the hills' grass turns into a vibrant green.

Aside from viewing thousands of hills, you can try riding on ATV. It's perfect for those who want to see up close the Chocolate Hills.
