Rainbow Military Community: The Most Colorful Attraction in Taiwan

The Rainbow Military Housing is one of the famous attractions in the city of Taichung. It's a vibrant and colorful housing complex where you can find bright colors and unique drawings on the walls.

According to our guide (Ms. Bella), The Rainbow Village was originally a housing complex for military families that immigrated to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War in mainland China. The village of today is now one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist destinations. We met Grandpa Huang or Rainbow Grandpa, the person behind of these colorful walls. He is one of the veterans who lived in this complex and he started to paint these houses with an amazing arts in 2008.

The village is not big. You can find here 3-5 houses painted with lovely designs. Most subjects on the walls include animation character, nature, people, dogs, cats, birds and a lot more. The whole place is very colorful. I must say it's a truly instagrammable place in Taiwan

Inside the The Rainbow Village, you can take a picture with  Grandpa Huang. You can also buy souvenirs like T-shirts, umbrellas, pins, mugs, postcards, and many more. You can also buy here a coffee that comes with cool tumbler.
