Tourism Malaysia Media Explore Race (TOMER) 2023 Adventure: Exploring Putrajaya & Selangor's Hidden Gems

The second edition of the Tourism Malaysia Media Explore Race (TOMER) 2023 has just concluded, and my team from the Philippines had an unforgettable time exploring the enchanting destinations of Putrajaya and Selangor. This thrilling race, held in collaboration with Perodua, Perbadanan Putrajaya, and Tourism Selangor, brought together 80 media practitioners, including 18 international participants from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Brunei.

The adventure kicked off on November 8, 2023, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), where Dato’ Dr Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, flagged off the participants for a three-day exploration.

This year's challenge was nothing short of exhilarating. Participants engaged in a treasure hunt, exploring Putrajaya's iconic landmarks and the coastal areas of Selangor in groups, all while cruising in stylish Perodua-sponsored cars. The cherry on top? Creating captivating tourism content, including videos for social media sharing.

Our journey through Putrajaya took us to breathtaking spots like Dataran Putra, Astaka Morocco, Wetland Studio, Nasyrul Quran Complex, Anjung Floria, Equestrian Park, Secret Garden Putrajaya, and Tangga Putrajaya. Tourism Malaysia even treated us to a colorful night view of Putrajaya with KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus services.

The adventure continued in Selangor, where we explored six checkpoints, starting at Homestay Banghuris, Pantai Bagan Lalang, Pantai Morib, Pantai Kelanang, Istana Bandar Jugra, and the Mah Meri Cultural Village at Pulau Carey. The journey concluded in Shah Alam with an award presentation ceremony at Mardhiyyah Hotel & Suites. Lucky participants, including us, walked away with exciting prizes.

As part of the government’s commitment to the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, TOMER 2023 aimed to strengthen collaboration with mainstream and new media. The event provided extensive publicity and coverage for the latest tourism products in and around Putrajaya and Selangor, showcasing natural and coastal attractions, heritage, arts, and culture.

Our experience at TOMER 2023 was beyond expectations. We had the opportunity to witness the beauty of Putrajaya and Selangor, immersing ourselves in various activities that reflected the rich culture and history of the region. Meeting fellow travelers from different countries added an extra layer of excitement to an already incredible adventure. TOMER 2023 truly succeeded in promoting these stunning destinations and fostering international camaraderie among travel enthusiasts.
