The Ultimate Travel Guide to Jomalig Island 2024

For those looking for a getaway from the bustling city, Jomalig Island is a welcome break from the high-rise buildings and traffic jams of the metro. It is one of the travelers' favorite destinations in the province of Quezon. The island is well known for its unspoiled golden sand beaches dotted with lush green pine trees. 



How to get to Jomalig Island


1 From Cubao, take LRT 2 and drop at Legarda Station

2.From LRT Station, take a 5-minute walk to reach the Bus Terminal (bound to Real Quezon). Raymond bus an hourly trip and travel time duration is about 4-5 hours.

3 From Real, you can either walk or ride a tricycle to Ungos Port

4 From Ungos port, take a passenger boat/ Cargo boat going to Jomalig Island. The cargo boat leaves bound for Jomalig at 7AM and the travel duration is around 5-6 hours.  Fare is around  P400- P500.



Another option is to take a bus going to Atimonan in Kamias or Cubao. Once in Atimonan, you may take a tricycle or tell the driver to bring you to the old port. All boats will drop passengers to Brgy. Talisay or Brgy. Moros. 


If there's no available trip from Ungos Port to Jomalig, you may take the alternative route going to the neighboring island, Patnanungan Island. Travel duration is  4-5 hours and the fare is around Php400. From Patnanungan Port, take another boat to Jomalig. The minimum fare is Php1,500. You can share the cost with other travelers.


Renting a boat is not advisable. It can be very expensive. 




Getting around in Jomalig Island


There's no regular public transportation on the island. Jeepneys are not available. The only way to tour around Jomalig is by renting a tricycle or a habal-habal (motorcycle). The rental fee for the motorbike will cost around Php800. If you wish to go on an island-hopping trip, you may rent a boat that starts at P1500 depending on the size of the boat. 



Where to Stay in Jomalig Island


Due to the increasing numbers of travelers going to the island, there are now several resorts to stay in Jomalig. You may also bring your own tent or hammock and camp out on some of the beaches in the area. Please make sure to ask local officials or beach owners which area is allowed to camp. Just to let you know that you can no longer pitch a tent in Salibungot beach. 


South Pacific Island Resort (SPIR Beach)  


SPIR is a simple beach resort in Jomalig. It offers accommodation that starts at P500 for two pax. It has also cottages, cabana, and tent pitching. You may contact Thelma at 09078285161. 


Tejada's Resort


There are two Tejada’s Resort in Jomalig – one near the main port and the second is in Sitio Landing.It offers rooms with common CR. Room cost starts at P300 per night. Where to eat in Jomalig


There are no restaurants or eateries near the beach. Most travelers bring their own food and cook it on the island. I highly suggest to buy all the ingredients in Real before boarding to cargo boat. There are some resort owners who offer "paluto". Please make sure to tell them ahead of time. There are small sari-sari stores near Salibungot Beach that sell goodies like instant noodles, rice, can goods, snacks, and many more. Please be reminded that these goodies are expensive, 3 times the regular price.

Jomalig Travel Tips and Reminders:


1. Expect a bumpy boat ride. The boat rides can be rough during the "ber" months up to January.

2. Don't expect too much with the boat It's actually designed for cargo.

3. Some cargo boat offers free lunch. Bring your own meals if you have allergies or delicate to a specific food

4. Don't forget to bring sunblock. The island is exposed to the direct heat of the sun

5. Electricity on the island is up from 6PM to 1AM only. Bring powerbanks and extra batteries for your gadgets.

6. It's advisable to travel in a group and take the DIY or KKB way.

7. It's cheaper to bring your own tent or hammock

8. Don't forget to bring a waterproof bag or you may put plastic inside your bag to secure your mobile phones, camera, and other gadgets. 

9. Globe and Smart both have signals on the island.

10.Bring enough cash if you plan to rent a boat for island-hopping.

11. The best time to visit Jomalig is during the summer season from March to May.

12  Leave no trace! Don't leave trash anywhere. Please maintain the natural beauty of the beach.
