Baler | Summer Destination in Aurora

Baler is one of the summer destinations in the Philippines. It is famous for beautiful historical landmarks and amazing waves. The town is considered as one of "top surf spots" in country.


This surfing paradise is the capital of  Aurora province. It's six hours away from Manila. Baler situated on a vast plain at the south end of Baler Bay, a contiguous segment of the Philippine Sea. You can reach the town via a mountain pass accessible by bus and private vehicle.




Famous tourist spots in Baler include Museo De Baler, Old Baler Municipal Hall, Church of Baler and Aurora's Quezon's Ancestral House, Diguisit Beach, Ermita Hill, Virgin Island, Mother Falls, Hanging Bridge and the famous Balete Tree also known as Millenium Tree.

Historical landmarks within the town proper are walking distance to each other. You can finish the City Tour within 2 hours. There are some fees to be collected in Museo De Baler and Quezon's Ancestral House.


In Diguisit Beach, you can find here stunning rock formations. You can also see here Aniao Islets and Diguisit Waterfalls. Please be advised to get an extra careful in this beach. Some of the stones are sharp and pointed. 


The old Balete Tree also known as Millenium Tree is one of the famous tourist attractions in Baler Aurora. It's estimated over 200 feet tall and around 600 years old. You can enter inside the tree and take pictures.


Don't forget yo visit Mother Falls. It's located in San Luis Aurora, which around 30 mins trek from the jump off. The Hanging Bridge is also one of the best side trips in your Baler  Adventure.


Room accommodation is not a problem. From high end to low end, you can find here great rooms. Costa Pacifica Resort, Aliya Resort and AMCO resort are some of the famous resorts in Baler.

If you're a backpacker, there are resorts that offer cheap accommodation. Some of them also offers space for those who want to pitch  a tent. 


Take a bus bound for Baler. Bus terminals are located in Cubao and Pasay The bus' first trip in Cubao is at 2AM with subsequent trips every hour while the last trip is at 7:30AM. In Pasay, the first bus leaves at 4:30AM subsequent trips at one hour intervals while the last trip is at 3PM. Travel time is around 5-6 hours.

If you're going to use your car / private vehicle, take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) at Balintawak ans exit at SCTEX. Follow the highway leading to Aliaga and Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija. From Cabanatuan City Proper, take the Nueva Ecija Aurora Hwy, passing through  the towns of Rizal, Talavera, Pantabangan. Once you reach the Nueva Ecija border,  drive thru the municipalities of Maria Aurora and San Luis. From there, it will take another hour to Baler.

I recommend to take JOY BUS if you are going to Baler. Our trip was comfortable. We're  able to sleep during the road trip. It has comfy chaird, a toilet, LCD tv and has wi-fi service where you can connect to the Internet while on the road. Fare is Php 750.

When in comes to food trip, I recommend the Baler Surfer's Grill and  Bay's Inn Hunger Surfer Restaurant. Their food is great.
